Health Career Institute: A New Year for a New Career

HCI New Year New You

Out with the old and in with the new – 2016 is a great year to start your new career that makes a difference!  It’s too often that people are stuck at an unfulfilling job wait for the “right time” to change careers. Now is that time!

For those of whom want something more, the healthcare field is a great option.  Although not for everyone, the healthcare field does have many benefits.

Job Demand in the Healthcare Field

The healthcare field is large, with many positions available. To give an idea, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for a registered nurse is projected to grow 19% from 2012 to 2022.  Employment for a medical assistant is expected to grow 29% between 2012 and 2022.  And lastly the job outlook for EMTs and paramedics is projected to grow 23% between those same years.  Healthcare is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States, making a great option for a new career.

Flexibility in the Healthcare Field

Another great benefit of working in the healthcare field is that there is a lot of flexibility and variability within the career.  This is great for those of whom have other obligations and aren’t looking to work a traditional 9-5 career.  This depends on the position you are working for, because some may be traditional hours while other may have more than your standard 40-hour work week.

Salaries in the Healthcare Field

According to bls.gov, the average pay for a registered nurse in 2012 was $65,470.  The average pay for a medical assistant in 2012 was $29,370.  Lastly, the average pay for EMTs and Paramedics in 2012 was $31,020.  This shows you that depending on where you go within the career, pay can vary.  In addition, this is average, but salary will also vary depending on education, geographic location, and experience.
