Study EMS at HCI

Paramedic HCI

Health Care Institute (HCI) pus the students first, preparing them for the real-world applications of their studies and focusing programs around students’ needs.

The certification and degree programs offered here at HCI allow students to begin an exciting career in health industries of their choosing. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is one such health-focused field. If you’re interested in a career in EMS, as an EMT, or a paramedic, HCI is the place to begin your journey.

Why Study EMS at HCI

EMS, or Emergency Medical Services, deals with the pre-hospital care of patients, often those involved in crime scenes, car accidents, traumatic injuries, or isolated medical events. At HCI, you can begin your career in EMS by receiving an associate of science degree and EMT certificates. Before enrolling in the degree program, students should obtain EMT-Basic and EMT-Hospital/Field Combined certifications.

How to Obtain an EMS Degree at HCI

The associate of science degree in EMS builds upon the EMT-Paramedic program here at HCI. In addition to that coursework, students must complete five general education courses:

• ENC1101: English Composition I
• ENC1101: English Composition II
• MGF1106: Liberal Arts Mathematics or MTA 1030: Intermediate Algebra
• PSY2012: Introduction to Psychology
• AMH2010: History of the USA: A Survey to 1877

These classes comprise 15 of the 60 credits required for the associate’s degree.

HCI provides students the opportunity to learn more conveniently with these courses offered online. The program generally takes 2 years to complete, students are afforded the opportunity to learn in a hybrid online/in-class environment. In-person training and on-the-job preparedness are not sacrificed in HCI hybrid programs.

Offline, the classes included in an AS EMS program are:

● Paramedic I Lecture /Lab Combined
● Paramedic I Hospital/Field Combined
● Paramedic II Lecture /Lab Combined
● Paramedic II Hospital/Field Combined
● Paramedic III Lecture /Lab Combined
● Paramedic III Hospital/Field Combined

In order to graduate, all classes must be completed to the Medical or EMS director’s satisfaction. An overall evaluation of a student’s preparedness for graduation will include his/her:
● Overall average academic standing
● Clinical performance and assessment
● General attitude and performance
● Knowledge of concepts studied
● Judgement as exhibited by the program
