Why Become a Nurse in 2017?

The United States is seeing an interesting shift in employment trends as a result of the Baby Boomer generation reaching retirement age. Not only does this mean that more jobs are becoming vacant (as Baby Boomers were previously the largest generation in the workforce) and need to be filled by qualified professionals, it also means something very important to the health care industry.

Retirement age has a high correlation with health care needs. The Baby Boomer generation is now the largest group of individuals requiring certain types of health care, which is leading to an additional spike in job opportunities for the industry. Boomers are at the highest risk for ailments including heart disease, dementia, obesity, diabetes, and other chronic conditions that require frequent care by medical professionals. Home health aides, private nurses, and even general hospital staff are more important than ever to meet the growing demand of these individuals nearing or reaching retirement and the host of medical implications the age brings.
