BSN Degree Requirements

BSN Degree Requirements

Different BSN programs will have different requirements for what they want in potential candidates.  Below is a list of some requirements a majority of BSN degree programs will be looking for.

Admissions Requirements for BSN Program

Most colleges and universities are, first and foremost, looking for potential students who have graduated with a high school diploma or earned a GED who show the potential to succeed in college.  Secondly, admissions officers are looking to see how students tested on their SATs in Math and Critical Thinking.  Lastly, the majority of BSN degree programs require incoming students to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Prerequisite Courses for BSN Program

For eligibility into a BSN program, many colleges and universities will require you to pass several prerequisite courses with a grade of Cor higher.  The minimum grade accepted will vary depending on the school.  Some prerequisites you can be expected to have to take are:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Introductory Biology
  • English Composition
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • General Chemistry
  • Statistics

Upon completion of these courses with the minimum grade or higher that the school requires, you could now be eligible for a BSN degree program.

Miscellaneous Requirements for BSN Program

As stated above, different schools will require different things.  Some other miscellaneous requirements that you may want to prepare for are, an essay, recommendations, volunteer and/or work experience, and an interview.  The essay should be personalized by clearly stating your experiences and motivations.  Make sure to promote your strengths, your long term goals, and why you are an ideal candidate for the school and program of your choice.  Coming out of high school, youll also want to get recommendations/references from teachers and others who may know you well enough to vouch for your academic abilities and personal achievements.
