How Do You Get Into Nursing School?
Once you have decided to become a nurse, the next step is to apply to a nursing school. Nursing schools have specific requirements for enrollment, and it is a good idea to be prepared for all of them prior to applying to the program.
Application steps for nursing school
Choose a school. The first step in getting into nursing school is to choose a school and campus location. Health Career Institute has campuses in two locations: West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. The associate of science in nursing is approved by the Florida Board of Education, and all programs are accredited by The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
Fill out the application and enrollment agreement. The application covers information about who you are as an applicant, while the enrollment agreement goes over the details about the program, including tuition, and the paperwork needed to complete your enrollment.
Send in your high school and previous college transcripts, if any. GED or other high school equivalency that meets standards in the 2016/2017 FSA Handbook is also accepted. The nursing school needs to know how well you did in school. In the case of college transcripts, some courses may count toward your nursing degree and transfer.
Additional requirements
Nursing students also have to get their American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification prior to clinicals. You also need to be up-to-date on your immunizations, especially the Tuberculosis skin test (PPD) and Titer blood tests.
A physical signed by a physician within the past 12 months before starting clinicals is required. You also need to submit a 10-Panel Drug Screen that is due within the first 60 days of school. Another requirement for getting into nursing school is submitting an FDLE Level II Background Check to the school within in six months of enrollment.
Nursing school applicants also take the Wonderlic SLE and must achieve a minimum score of 14 to be accepted into the program. This exam helps to predict your success within the nursing program and doing college-level work.
Once you have met all of the application and enrollment requirements for getting into nursing school, all you have to do is wait. You can begin registering for classes once you receive your acceptance letter and follow your next steps in the process.
