Earning Your Paramedic Diploma for AS in EMS
The Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services, or AS in EMS, prepares you for a career in the emergency medical services. Learn leadership skills that are required for advancement in the field and get a well-rounded education that serves you throughout your life.
However, you must earn your Paramedic diploma before enrolling in the AS in EMS.
Earning Your Paramedic Diploma
Paramedic training is the core component of an AS in EMS. Students learn advanced life support techniques, as well as how to respond in emergencies. Leadership is an important skill to have as a Paramedic.
As a Paramedic, you must know how to perform the same procedures that EMTs know how to do and so much more. Paramedics can administer medications, set up intravenous (IV) lines, resuscitate cardiac and respiratory patients, and provide life support.
The Paramedic program can be completed in as little of 12 months. It includes lectures, hands-on clinical labs and real-life field training. Once you complete the rigorous training, you have to take and pass the National National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic exam and apply for Paramedic certification with the state of Florida.
From Paramedic to AS in EMS
Becoming a certified Paramedic is the first prerequisite to earning your AS in EMS. Once you have met that prerequisite, you can apply to the AS in EMS program. This degree supplements your education so that you are trained for supervisory and leadership positions.
General education courses like history, math and science provide a well-rounded education that employers look for when considering candidates for certain positions. Become a better communicator and medical professional with these foundational “soft skills” that complement your technical training.
