What Is A 12-Lead ECG Course About

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a picture of the electrical conduction of the heart which gives information about a variety of different medical conditions.  The 12-Lead ECG is an important tool in the emergency department. An ECG is often the first piece of diagnostic testing available in the evaluation of a patient. 

In a 12-Lead ECG course, you will delve deeper into the world of ECG Interpretation by learning to understand pattern recognition and how the recordings are directly related to cardiac electrophysiology.

In a 12-Lead ECG course, you will learn about the parts of an ECG.  A standard ECG has 12 leads, six of the leads are considered “limb leads” and they are placed on the arms and/or legs of the patient. The remaining six leads are considered “precordial leads” and they are placed on the person’s torso (precordium).

The 12-Lead ECG course typically requires a prerequisite of a Basic-ECG course, which will provide you with the skills to be able to read and understand the basics of the ECG.  As you become more skilled throughout your course, you will learn how to detect different pathological and physiological problems such as, genetic disorders, hypothermia, myocardial infarction, and structural heart disease.

HCI provides a 12-Lead ECG course that will provide the student with a basic understanding of the rhythms seen in numerous cardiac conditions. Once the course is completed, the student will be able to diagnose various cardiac abnormalities according to the 12-Lead ECG diagnostic.
