About The Basic-ECG Course

Basic ECG

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a picture of the electrical conduction of the heart gives information about a variety of different medical conditions.  The primary purpose of the cardiovascular system is to supply an adequate amount of blood to peripheral tissues to meet their metabolic demands at all times.

The ECG is a valuable diagnostic tool for healthcare providers in cardiac rehabilitation. Understanding the ECG enables healthcare professionals to respond correctly and treat dangerous and potentially deadly arrhythmias as quickly and efficiently as possible.

A Basic-ECG course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of rhythm seen in a variety of cardiac conditions.  As a prerequisite for the 12-Lead ECG course, Basic-ECG will help students determine the difference between normal and abnormal basic cardiac rhythms.  The ECG helps gives professionals information about rate and rhythm and about individual areas of the heart.

The goal of the Basic-ECG course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the ECG and an approach to interpretation.  As with any learned skill, with practice the students will be able to rapidly recognize familiar patterns on the ECG.

In a Basic ECG course, you will learn the fundamentals of the following:

  •  Basic cardiac anatomy and physiology
  •  The parts of an ECG
  • A solid system for interpreting ECGs
  • Problems of rate and rhythm, including bradycardia, tachycardia and atrial fibrillation
  • Myocardial infarction
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Cardiac muscle disease and congenital heart disease
