Earning a Nursing Degree in Lauderdale Lakes

Nursing careers are still in demand in the Lauderdale Lakes and Northern Miami region. Health Career Institute’s Ft. Lauderdale campus provides aspiring nurses with the education and training needed to work within local hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, and more. What does it take to earn a nursing degree in Lauderdale Lakes?

The nursing degree at HCI prepares a student to become a Registered Nurse. Students complete 72 credits of theory courses, hands-on labs, and field training. When students graduate, they are prepared to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX). Registered Nurses can then apply for jobs and enter the field.

General Education and Theory

The Associate of Science degree in Nursing covers general education courses for a well-rounded education. Nursing students take English Composition I and Speech I for effective communication. Liberal arts mathematics provide a solid basis for the mathematics involved in the daily routines of nursing. Courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and general psychology create a foundation for all the learning in the core nursing courses.

Theory courses include Nursing I, II, and III, as well as coursework in psychiatric nursing, medical surgical nursing, and maternal/newborn nursing. The clinicals give nursing students the opportunity to apply while they learn in theory courses on simulated patients.

Go Beyond the Classroom

Training goes beyond the classroom. The best way to learn something is to do it. Once the foundational principles have been learned, nursing students will be ready to work in hospital settings with actual patients alongside doctors and nurses. This prepares the student for the fast-paced atmosphere of real-life medical situations. Nursing students learn how to speak with patients and work with doctors.

Becoming a nurse in Lauderdale Lakes involves hard work and dedication. Make sure to find time to study outside of classes. Work in study groups, ask questions, and remember that learning can be both challenging and fun. The nursing degree in Lauderdale Lakes takes about 20 months to complete.
