Career Benefits of Earning Your AS in EMS

An Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services, or an AS in EMS, might be just what you need to bolster your career in pre-hospital emergency care.

EMTs and Paramedics enter the field with training and certification, so getting a full degree is not necessary to start a career. Why get the degree then? Consider these career benefits of earning your AS in EMS.

Career Benefits of an AS in EMS

No matter your field, a degree gives you a competitive edge. Employers look for college degrees when hiring leadership and management positions. Are you looking for career advancement opportunities? Then the AS in EMS can help you to achieve that.

Certification in EMS may be enough to start your career, but a college degree provides additional credibility. You earn professional credibility with an associates degree that can give you a voice in research and policymaking.

Do you think you may want to earn a bachelors degree or even go to medical school in the future? The AS in EMS is a good move for those who want to continue their education in the future. Have a strong academic foundation to backup your training and skills.

Earning your AS in EMS

You can earn your AS in EMS online. The prerequisite for earning this degree is that you have already completed Paramedic training and certification. Your college credits from your Paramedic classes transfer into the degree (45 credits). Your remaining 15 credits, general education courses, are available online.

That means that you can continue to work in the Paramedic field while completing your college degree! Log into your classes on your own time. Earn your degree around your current schedule.

Keep your skills sharp with an AS in EMS. This provides a well-rounded education that will serve you well in most aspects of your career … and your life. Business writing and communication, mathematics, and science all give you a solid foundation for anything that you may do in life.

You’ve already finished Paramedic training. That means that you are close to having a full associates degree already. Why not take the next step and earn your AS in EMS?
