How to get into Nursing School

How to get into Nursing School

Nursing is a career that you can begin upon completion of an accredited nursing school program.

Your nursing education will prepare you to enter the field of nursing in as little as two years, and you will be taking care of patients in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and more. The possibilities are endless! And it all begins with enrollment in a nursing school program.

The requirements for getting into the nursing school program at HCI College include the general admission requirements and the nursing program requirements.

General Admission Requirements for Nursing School

General admission requires that you possess a high school diploma or GED, are at least 18 years old, pass a 10-panel drug screen, have a physical health clearance from a physician, and current PPD, proof of Titers and proof of a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) for Healthcare Provider card. Students must also pass a criminal background check FDLE (Level II) prior to enrollment.

Requirements for Nursing School Students

Nursing applicants need to have previous education in a medical program or some completion of college-level coursework. These requirements ensure that the student will be prepared to handle the demanding education of an Associate of Science degree in Nursing.

Students can be admitted as either a beginning (Generic) or transition student within the nursing school. Information and documents for nursing students admitting as Generic will need to submit to the Director of Education for advisement, while nursing students admitting as transition students will need to submit their transcripts and college application to the Admissions Office at HCI College.

The enrollment process requires a submission of an Admissions Application and all required documentation, as well as admissions fees. Nursing school students will also need to submit an Enrollment Agreement before classes begin.

Nursing school will consist of 72 credit hours that combines classroom instruction and lectures with hands-on clinicals and labs. Simulated hospital environments will prepare the nursing school student to enter the field with the knowledge and confidence required for a successful career in nursing. State-of-the-art simulated mannequins serve as patients that will prepare nursing school students with hands-on practice in childbirth, seizure emergencies, bleeding, drug interactions, and more.
