RN Salaries

Once you have earned your Bachelors of Science in Nursing, you’re on track to becoming a Registered Nurse (RN).  As an RN, there are several different positions that you could hold, below will discuss the potential salaries for different positions as an RN.

Registered Nurse (RN)

  • A registered nurse with a BSN in the United States makes $51,000 a year as an entry level nurse. 
  • A registered nurse mid-career in the 50th percentile can make an average of $59,800.
  • For a registered nurse who has worked in his/her position for a while, the average salary for the 50th percentile is $65,000 annually. 

In certain cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia, a registered nurse has the opportunity to earn more than other cities such as Atlanta, Orlando, and St. Louis due to the cost of living.  In Los Angeles, a registered nurse can make anywhere from $40,000 to $90,000, while in St. Louis a salary for a register nurse can range from $35,600 to $77,000.

Registered Nurse Supervisor

  • A registered nurse supervisor with a BSN in the United States makes $60,000 a year as an entry level nurse. 
  • A registered nurse mid-career in the 50th percentile can make an average of $65,000.
  • For a registered nurse who has worked in his/her position for a long time, the average salary for the 50th percentile is $70,500 annually. 

For registered nurse supervisors in New York City, the average salary for those in the 50th percentile is $80,300.  Those in the 90th percentile in New York City could make as much as $100,000 annually.  In a city such as Phoenix, AZ, an RN supervisor in the 50th percentile makes an average of $76,000; those in the 90th percentile make an average of $94,000 annually.

Registered Nurse, Emergency Room

  • A registered nurse in an emergency room with a BSN in the United States makes $53,000 a year as an entry level nurse. 
  • A registered nurse mid-career in the 50th percentile can make an average of $65,000.
  • For a registered nurse who has worked in his/her position for a long time, the average salary for the 50th percentile is $72,000 annually. 

An emergency room RN in the 50th percentile in Los Angeles makes an average salary of $67,000.  For those in the 90th percentile, an emergency room RN can make as much as $98,000 a year.  In a city such as Las Vegas, an RN in the 50th percentile makes an average of $59,500; those in the 90th percentile make an average of $87,000 annually.
