Benefits of Becoming an EMT in Florida

Benefits EMT Florida

Being an Emergency Medical Technician can be a very rewarding career choice.  Those who devote their lives to this field feel that they are helping their community and changing lives. In truth, many people who become emergency medical technicians begin as volunteers, mainly because they want to help others.

Similar to the nursing career, a day as an EMT is never the same.  Although the job of an EMT is always the same – to analyze the scene, beginning care for the patient, and to do all this in a safe manner – you never know what to expect when you wake up for work that morning.  For some people, this sense of unknowing is a benefit of this career.  Instead of doing the same mundane work, your surroundings are always changing.

Why Become an EMT in Florida?

A state like Florida is a great place to be in the medical field, and to be an EMT.  With the growing population of retirees, there also may be an increase in medical attention to this population.  Also, the job outlook for EMTs is expected to grow 24% between the years 2014 and 2024, which is faster than most occupations.  EMTs are in demand, making it a great time to contact HCI for a tour of the facilities to see the state-of-the-art equipment you could be learning on.

In Florida as an EMT, you may be thinking about salary.  If you start off as a volunteer, you may get little to no monetary compensation.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2014, the average pay for a salaried EMT was $31,700 a year. Depending on where you are in Florida, pay may differ. For instance, the average salary in Boca Raton is $30,400, whereas in Gainesville it’s $28,200. On average, in Florida, salaries range from $27,800 to $30,700.
