Firefighter Courses in Florida

Becoming a firefighter in the state of Florida is a big undertaking that requires a lot of work and a strong sense of commitment.

Before you get to the exciting part, where you’re working every day in a career you love that’s filled with adrenaline rushes and making a real difference in the community, the education and training component is crucial and demanding.

To become a firefighter, you will need an intensive education. You might choose to attend a fire-specific academy, or a more universal health service institution. Health Career Institute offers a fire science associate’s degree that fully prepares you for the demands of the job of a Florida firefighter.

HCI’s Firefighter Program

Throughout the 60-credit, two-year program, HCI grants you the education, hands-on experience and training, connections, and know-how that is necessary to be successful as a Florida firefighter. The coursework includes such key topics as fire codes and safety standards, fire investigation techniques, best practices for fire prevention, and tactics and methods for efficiently and safely fighting fires. With the well-rounded approach HCI takes to this education, you will not only be fit to work as a firefighter, but eligible for upward mobility in your industry.

Other Florida fire academies refine your education to the fundamentals of firefighting. But because enrolling in HCI means enrolling in an associates degree program, your education is a fuller and more enriching experience here. General coursework in math, English, and electives round out the group of core classes in fire science that you will take, increasing your chances for success in and out of school.
